Judaea under Roman Procurators
6 - 60 CE

Judaea was ruled by a series of Procurators appointed by Rome. They reported to the Governor of Syria. Some of the Procurators issued coins (bronze). The coins issued by the Procurators before 32 CE are called the WIDOWS MITE  as described in the Bible.

Prutah of Roman Procurator Coponius. 6-9 CE.
Obverse : Ear of barley with a Greek inscription around.
Reverse : Palm tree with a date mark of 36th year of the reign of Augustus ( c. 6 CE).
 
 

 Marcus Ambibulus
9-12 CE

Bronze 17 mm coin from the time of Procurator Marcus Ambibulus 9-12 CE
Obverse : Ear of Barley with a Greek inscription around.
Reverse : Year 41  of the reign of Augustus (11 CE)  and a palm tree of eight branches with two date clusters.

15-26 CE

Prutah from the time of Procurator Valerius Gratus15-26 CE.
Obverse : Vine leaf and small bunch of grapes,
Reverse : Amphora with scroll handles. Year 4 of Tiberius (17 CE)
 

Pontius Pilate
26-36 CE

Pontius Pilate ruled Judaea during the time of Jesus of Nazereth. Jesus was tried for treason before Pontius Pilate and sentenced to death by crucifixion.

Reverse : Date mark in a wreath (LIZ for 31 CE).

Reverse : date mark in a wreath with the date mark LIH, indicates this coin was struck in  32 CE.
